Thomas Ray "Tom" Miller age 72 of W.B. Carpenter Ln., Springfield, passed away at 5:02 am Sunday, April 26, 2026 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospice Unit in Lexington.
Born December 18, 1953 in Shelbyville, he was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Thomas and Edna Ruth Taylor Miller, a grandson, Chase Johnson, three sisters, Cricket Barnes, Wanda Miller and Barbara Carson and his adoptive parents, William Harrison and Patsy Ann Bryant Dees.
He was a retired Sgt. Major in the U.S. Army where he served over 26 years, he had been a Washington County Deputy Jailer and had served as Chief Security Officer at the Washington County Judicial Center. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Mudd Miller, a son, Thomas William (Courtney) Miller of East Berlin, PA, three daughters, Tommie Gail Youngblood of Smiths Station, AL, Toni (Chad) Sloan of Columbus, GA and Danielle Renee Block of Harrisburg, PA, two brothers, Danny (Janet) Dees of Madisonville, KY and Darrell (Rhonda) Dees of Eminence, KY, a sister, Gloria Greista of Chicago, IL, five grandchildren Hunter and Cody Payton, Kinsley Youngblood, Baylea Roberts and Bryson Mulkey, three great grandchildren, Baylor, Eleanor and Whitney Payton.
Cremation was chosen and a memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home with Jim Milburn officiating. Inurnment will be at 2:30 pm Thursday, May 7 at Lebanon National Cemetery with military honors to be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am till time of services at 1:00 pm at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home who is entrusted with arrangements.
