Thomas Fabian Cambron was born in Springfield, Kentucky to Amy Murphy Cambron and Harold Simeon (Jake) Cambron. He graduated from Springfield High School. Education was very important to Fabian, so much so that when he was unable to attend a four-year college he petitioned the Mother Superior of St. Catherine (an all-girls school at the time) Junior College (in Springfield) multiple times so he could continue to live at home, work and attend classes. With great persistence he earned an associate degree at St. Catherine in 1953 as the first male graduate.
Fabian continued his pursuit of higher education for years. He doggedly pursued his bachelor’s degree, while working 2 jobs and raising 4 children. He graduated with his BS in Business Administration from Bellarmine College (Louisville) and attend Jacksonville University for continuing education over the years.
After high school Fabian dutifully went into military service and proudly served his country during the Korean War. After leaving the service, he started his professional career in the mailroom of the L & N Railroad in Louisville, Kentucky. Fabian worked hard in the mail room and was promoted to a key punch operator, and onto various other leadership roles throughout L&N Railroad. He and his family were transferred to Jacksonville Florida as part of the CSX merger in 1980. After 43 years of hard work and dedication, Fabian retired as Manager of Audit from CSX (L&N) Railroad in Jacksonville, Florida.
After his military service, Fabian returned to Springfield, KY and began dating Florence Simms Cambron. Flo, the love of his life, and Fabian were married on February 23, 1957 at St. Dominic Church, Springfield, KY. He was her devoted and loving husband all the days of her life. They had four children; Delena Cambron Hardaway (John), Enid, OK, Amy Cambron Saling (Robert) Indianapolis, IN, Thomas Fabian Cambron, Jr (Donna), Bluffton, SC. Joseph Kimble Cambron (Colleen), Milford, OH.
When Fabian and Flo retired and moved from Jacksonville to Springfield he became very involved in many volunteer projects with St. Dominic church and school, St Catherine College, Habitat for Humanity, and the Historical Society. An avid basketball fan he followed not only local area games, college games on TV but he also attended all the Milford Ohio High School games where his son coached, He loved attending the sports and school activities of his grandkids in Oklahoma, Indiana, Ohio and South Carolina.
Fabian was of strong character and faith providing an outstanding role model for his family, friends and co-workers. He believed in cherishing and honoring his wife, unconditional love to his children and grandchildren, education, and hard work. He was a positive man always ready with a smile, a twinkle in his eye, able to offer solid advice, and if music was playing, a whirl around the dance floor.
He is survived by his children; their spouses, fourteen grandchildren; John Hardaway Jr (Amanda), Cambron Hardaway (Catherine), Zachary Hardaway (Channing), Andrew Saling ( Kirsten), David Saling (Dylan), Michael Saling, Patrick Saling, Logan Cambron , Jake Cambron, Ashley Holkenborg, Lauren Bierschenck, Caleb Cambron, Cielle Cambron and Mo Cambron.
