Sr. Rose Heitzman, OP Obituary

Dominican Sister of Peace Rose Anthony Heitzman, OP (96), a native of Louisville, Kentucky, died on February 7, 2022, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky.  Sr. Rose is survived by one brother, Anthony (Tony) Heitzman of Louisville, KY, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

A Dominican for 72 years, Sr. Rose earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education/English from Siena College (Memphis, TN).  She also earned certification in Christian Education from Roncalli Center (Louisville, KY).  She ministered as a teacher at St. Augustine (Jeffersonville, IN); St. Michael (Orland Park, IL); SS Simon and Jude (Brooklyn, NY); St. James (Kearney, NE); St. Patrick (McCook, NE); St. Mary (Bellevue, NE); Our Lady of the Wayside (Arlington Heights, IL); and Sacred Heart (Jeffersonville, IN).  Sister also ministered as Principal/Teacher at St. Brendan (Elkins, WV).  In 1974, Sr. Rose was a receptionist at Emmaus House (Louisville, KY) and then served as bookkeeper/intake clerk and receptionist at the Sister Visitor Program in Louisville, KY.  In 1977, she was the Community Coordinator of the Volunteer Network Federation of Church Agency (Louisville, KY).  She later became the Secretary/bookkeeper at Immaculate Heart School (Louisville, KY).  In 1980, Sr. Rose moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse, St. Catharine, KY where she provided clerical services/community service for many years.  Sister was very dedicated to this ministry.

In 2009, Sr. Rose moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.

Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. The visitation begins at 3pm, Tuesday, February 15, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel.  The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, February 16, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel.  Burial will be at the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.  The services for Sr. Rose will be for the Dominican Sisters of Peace and family members only.
