Dominican Sister of Peace Noel Toomey, OP (88), a native of Galveston, Texas, died on January 27, 2025, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Noel is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 67 years, Sr. Noel earned a Master of Arts in Theology from Creighton University (Omaha, NE). She ministered as a catechist in Louisiana and Arizona; she was also involved in prison ministry. She served her former community, the Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic in New Orleans, as novice directress, was on the council and as community president. She also served as the founding director of the Archdiocesan Spirituality Center in New Orleans. She happily transitioned with her former community when they became the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2009. Sr. Noel continued to do freelance spiritual direction, retreats, and workshops.
In 2022, Sr. Noel moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. The visitation begins at 3pm, Monday, February 3, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, February 4, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
