Sr. Mary Thompson, OP Obituary

Dominican Sister of Peace Mary Elizabeth Thompson, OP (77), a native of Medford, Massachusetts, died on March 18, 2021, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky.  Sr. Mary Elizabeth is survived by three brothers Dennis (Ivette) of Bradenton, Florida, Mark (Jean) of Arlington, Massachusetts and Paul Thompson (Patty) of Nashua, New Hampshire as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Dominican for 56 years, Sr. Mary Elizabeth earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/Education from Siena College (Memphis, TN) and a Master of Arts in Administration from Boston State College (Boston, MA).  She ministered as a teacher at St. Rose (Springfield, KY); Dominican Academy (Plainville, MA); Community Center for Christian Education/East Boston Central Catholic (East Boston, MA); St. Catherine of Genoa (Somerville, MA) and Immaculate Conception  (Everett, MA).  Sr. Mary Elizabeth was principal at Rosary Academy (Watertown, MA) and Our Lady of Lourdes (Jamaica Plain, MA).  Later, she was vice-principal at St. Joseph in (Medford, MA).  From 2002-2011, Sister was the coordinator at Rosary Manor in Watertown, MA.

In 2012, Sr. Mary Elizabeth moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.

Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky.  The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, March 20, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel.  Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.  Due to the COVID19 pandemic restrictions, all services will be private.
