Sr. Marie Cleary, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace Marie Cleary, OP (84), a native of Boston, Massachusetts, died on December 2, 2020, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky.  Sr. Marie is survived by two sisters, Jean Hickey and Joan Picariello as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Dominican for 63 years, Sr. Marie earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education/Psychology from Regis College (Weston, MA) and a Masters of Art in Special Education from Bridgewater State College (Bridgewater, MA).  She ministered as a teacher/librarian at Dominican Academy (Plainville, MA); St. Joseph (Belmont, MA); St. Francis deSales (Charlestown, MA); St. Mel (Gloucester, MA); St. John (Cambridge, MA) and St. Joseph (Wakefield, MA). Sister also served as principal at Sacred Heart (East Boston, MA).  From 1992 to 2008, Sister ministered as an assistant librarian at Austin Preparatory School (Reading, MA).

In 2018, Sr. Marie moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse (St. Catharine, KY), where she provided community service.  In 2020, she moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.

Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Sister chose cremation.  Due to the COVID19 pandemic restrictions, graveside services will be private.  Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery on Friday, December 11, 2020.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY.  Date to be announced.
