Dominican Sister of Peace Josepha Buckley, OP (100), a native of Boston, Massachusetts, died on November 30, 2023, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Josepha is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 75 years, Sr. Josepha earned a Bachelor of Arts in History/Social Studies from Regis College (Weston, MA) and a Master of Arts in Education/Guidance from Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA). She ministered as a teacher at St. Michael (Lowell, MA); St. Luke (Belmont, MA); Our Lady of Lourdes (Queens Village, NY); Rosary Academy (Watertown, MA); St. James (Arlington, MA); St. Mel Day School (Gloucester, MA) and St. Peter Grammar School (Cambridge, MA). Sister was also principal/teacher at Resurrection (Brooklyn, NY); St. Dominic Academy (Waverley, MA); and St. John the Evangelist (Lima, OH). In 1972, Sr. Josepha was the Assistant Personnel Director at St. Joseph Convent (Belmont, MA). She later provided community service at Rosary Manor (Watertown, MA).
In 2014, Sr. Josepha moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse (St. Catharine, KY) where she continued to provide community service, while working at Heavenly Treasures Mission Store in Springfield, KY, then in 2018, she moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale – Polin – Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. The cremains visitation begins at 3pm, Wednesday, December 6, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, December 7, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
