Dominican Sister of Peace Joseph Leo Pietrowski, OP (93), a native of Newburyport, Massachusetts, died on April 11, 2026, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Joseph is survived by several nieces.
A Dominican for 73 years, Sr. Joseph earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics/Science from DePaul University (Chicago, IL) and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Boston College (Chestnut Hill, MA). She ministered as a teacher at St. John Berchmans (Chicago, IL); Sacred Heart (East Boston, MA); Kearney Catholic (Kearney, NE); Convento San Carlos (Aguadilla, PR); SS. Simon and Jude (Brooklyn, NY); and North Cambridge Catholic (Cambridge, MA). Sr. Joseph held the position of Administrative Assistant for three leadership teams in Kentucky and Ohio. Sister was a teacher and school treasurer at Bishop Fenwick (Peabody, MA). Later, she provided volunteer assistance as a Relief Person to the Receptionist at Dominican Academy (New York, NY).
In 2018, Sr. Joseph moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse (St. Catharine, KY) where she continued to provide community service, then in 2023, she moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. The visitation begins at 3pm, Thursday, April 16, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Friday, April 17, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
