Dominican Sister of Peace Joann Luttrell (Jane Frederic), OP (84), a native of Louisville, Kentucky, died on April 9, 2020, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Joann is survived by one sister Jane Klobe and three brothers John, George and Robert Luttrell and several nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 62 years, Sr. Joann earned a Bachelor of Arts in Science from St. Catharine Jr. College (St. Catharine, KY) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Catherine Spalding – Spalding University (Louisville, KY). She ministered as a nurse aid at Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY); Supervisor of Nursing at Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY); Administrator at Marian Manor Nursing Home and Mary Immaculate Hospital (Lebanon, KY). Sr. Joann was appointed to serve on the leadership team of the former Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine, St. Catharine, KY from 1976-80; 1980-84; and again in 1988-91. Sister also served as a hospital chaplain at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, OH. In 1993, Sr. Joann was the Resident Care Coordinator and Director of Mission at Sacred Heart Village Home in Louisville, KY. She remained in this position until she moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse, St. Catharine, KY in 2008 where she provided community service.
In 2012, Sr. Joann moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Due to the COVID19 pandemic restrictions, graveside services will be private. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery on Tuesday, April 14, 2020. A memorial mass will be held later this year at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY. Date to be announced.
