Dominican Sister of Peace Joan Dropski, OP (85), a native of Lynn, Massachusetts, died on October 4, 2019, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Joan is survived by several cousins.
A Dominican for 64 years, Sr. Joan earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/Education/Social Studies from Siena College (Memphis, TN) and a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies from Mundelein College (Chicago, IL). She ministered as a teacher at St. Mary (Bellevue, NE); St. Philip Neri (Omaha, NE); St. Mary (Omaha, NE); St. Luke (Ogallala, NE) and St. Anthony (Cedar Rapids, NE). She also was principal at St. Anthony (Cedar Rapids, NE). Sr. Joan was Director of Religious Education at St. Francis Parish (Randolph, NE) and St. Agnes Parish (Arlington, MA). In 1976, Sister was regional coordinator of the Western Region and later religious educator/teacher and regional coordinator at Rosary Academy (Watertown, MA). Sr. Joan was the religion coordinator/health coordinator at St. John the Evangelist School (Cambridge, MA). She also was pastoral associate at St. Anthony’s Parish (Allston, MA). In 1991, Sister provided administrative assistance to the Regional office in Watertown, MA. Sr. Joan worked in the Chancery Office for the Archdiocese of Boston in the finance department. She later was the Eastern Region Treasurer for the former Dominican Sisters of St. Catharine, KY. In 2007, Sr. Joan moved to Rosary Manor (Watertown, MA) to provide community service.
In 2018, Sr. Joan moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. The visitation begins at 4:30pm, Sunday, October 13, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Monday, October 14, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
