Sr. Elaine Shaw, OP

Dominican Sister of Peace Elaine Shaw, OP (91), a native of Taunton, Massachusetts, died on April 28, 2026, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky.  Sr. Elaine is survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Dominican for 65 years, Sr. Elaine earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University (Omaha, NE); and a Master of Theology in Pastoral Studies from Loyola University (Chicago, IL).   She ministered in the field of nursing as nurse, supervisor, medical records coder, pediatric nurse, and natural family planning director.  She served at Mary Immaculate Hospital (Lebanon, KY); Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY); St. John Hospital (Spalding, NE); St. John Gaston and St. Jude Children’s Hospitals (Memphis, TN); and St. Joseph Hospital (Chicago, IL).  Sister served as a pastoral associate at Holy Name Parish (Memphis, TN).  She also served as chaplain at Sturdy Memorial Hospital (Attleboro, MA) and as a hospice chaplain for the Visiting Nurses in North Attleboro, MA.  

In 2002, Sr. Elaine moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse where she provided community service.  In 2021, she moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence. 

Arrangements were handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Sister had chosen a Green Burial.  She was buried on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.  The Sharing of Memories followed by the Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 10:00am at Sansbury Care Center Chapel, St. Catharine, Kentucky.
