Sr. Elaine DesRosiers. OP Obituary

Dominican Sister of Peace Elaine Virginia DesRosiers, OP (formerly Sr. Gregory Anne) (90), a native of Worcester, Massachusetts, died on December 16, 2020, at Springview Hospital, Lebanon, Kentucky.  Sr. Elaine is survived by two sisters Janet Fontaine of Sedona, Arizona and Felice Cottle of Denver, Colorado.

A Dominican for 70 years, Sr. Elaine earned a Doctorate in Education in Educational Media and Technology from Boston College (Boston, MA); Master of Science in Biology from the University of Notre Dame, (Notre Dame, IN); and Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Nazareth College (Spalding University) in Louisville, KY.  She ministered as a teacher at St. Stephen Martyr (Louisville, KY); as Principal and teacher at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel (Louisville, KY); and teacher at St. Patrick High School (Watertown, MA).  Sister was Director of Educational Media at the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, IN) for 21 years.  Sister ministered as Promoter of Ongoing Dominican Life for the congregation ten years.  She retired to St. Catharine Motherhouse in 2007 where she was an “Artist in Residence” while a consultant/teacher for the former St. Catharine College. Sister created many beautiful pieces of artwork.   She had volunteered at Hope Rescue Mission and Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana and Habitat for Humanity (Board Member) in Kentucky.  Sr. Elaine was a member of the Dominican Institute of the Arts and was a proud recipient of the Fra Angelico Award.

Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Due to the COVID19 pandemic restrictions, graveside services will be private.  Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at 11:00 a.m.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date.  Date to be announced.
