Dominican Sister of Peace Charlene Vogel (87), a native of Grand Island, Nebraska died on February 6, 2024, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville, Kentucky. Sr. Charlene is survived by brothers Rolland, Jim, Charley, and sisters Judy Mettenbrink, Rosellen Vogel and Susan Schutt and many nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 66 years, Sr. Charlene earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Siena College (Memphis TN); a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI), and a Master of Arts in Spirituality/Theology from Duquesne University (Pittsburg, PA). Sister ministered as an educator and administrator in Iowa, Nebraska, and Tennessee.
Sister served three years as Religious Education Coordinator at Holy Rosary Parish in Springfield, KY. She ministered as the Congregation’s Formation Director for four years and Western Regional Coordinator for ten years. She moved to St Catharine in 2008 where she taught at St. Catharine College and tutored for ECTC Technical College until she retired in 2017. Sister was an artist and enjoyed cross-stitch, embroidery, and crocheting, as well as gardening, especially flowers.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in Sansbury Care Center Chapel, St. Catharine, KY. The funeral will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. in Magdalen Chapel, followed by the burial in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
