Dominican Sister of Peace Betty Ann Hesse, OP (81), a native of Louisville, Kentucky, died on December 6, 2020, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Betty Ann is survived by one brother, William Hesse from Louisville, KY along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 60 years, Sr. Betty Ann earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky (Richmond, KY) and a Master of Science in Nursing from Spalding University (Louisville, KY). She ministered as a nurse at Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY); St. John Hospital (Spalding, NE); Marian Manor (Lebanon, KY); Mary Immaculate Hospital (Lebanon, KY) and Pattie A. Clay Hospital (Richmond, KY). Sr. Betty Ann was the assistant head nurse and discharge planning coordinator at St. Anthony Hospital (Louisville, KY). She was a contingency nurse and nurse manager at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital (Louisville, KY) and later a nurse manager and resource nurse at Caritas Medical Center (Louisville, KY).
In 2001, Sr. Betty Ann began her work with the American Red Cross. She was a nurse, emergency caseworker, office coordinator and health service manager. Sister spent many years working with this organization.
In 2016, Sister moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse (St. Catharine, KY) where she provided community service; then in 2018 she moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. Due to the COVID19 pandemic restrictions, graveside services will be private. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery on Monday, December 14, 2020. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, KY. Date to be announced.
