Dominican Sister of Peace Mary Carla Golom, OP (87), a native of Chicago, Illinois, died on October 27, 2018, at Sansbury Care Center, St. Catharine, Kentucky. Sr. Mary Carla is survived by one brother John Golom and several nieces and nephews.
A Dominican for 68 years, Sr. Mary Carla earned a Bachelor of Arts in English/Education/Theatre Arts from Regis College (Weston, MA) and a Masters of Arts in Speech Education from Emerson College (Boston, MA). She ministered as a teacher at St. James (McMechen, WV); St. John (Lima, OH); St. Luke (Waverley, MA); St. Patrick (West Lynn, MA); Rosary Academy (Watertown, MA) and Aquinas Literacy Center (Chicago, IL). Sr. Mary Carla was an instructor at St. Catharine College (St. Catharine, KY) and College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, IL). Sister worked with the elderly and the poor at St. John Berchman (Chicago, IL). She was a resource person at the Office for Divine Worship (Chicago, IL). Later, Sister Mary Carla was part of the mid-west Regional Team as well as the director of the Loretto Education Service in Wheaton, IL. In 2011, Sr. Mary Carla moved to St. Catharine Motherhouse, St. Catharine, KY.
In 2018, she moved to Sansbury Care Center (St. Catharine, KY), where she began a ministry of prayer and presence.
Arrangements are handled by Hale–Polin–Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, Kentucky. The visitation begins at 3pm, Tuesday, October 30, at the Sansbury Care Center Chapel. The funeral will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, October 31, at Sansbury Care Center Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
