Robert Franklin (Bob) Goodlett left this life on October 17, 2018 the same way he entered the world, at home surrounded by love and family.
Bob was born September 17, 1936 to the late P.G. and Juanita Goodlett. He was born and raised on a farm in the Kirkwood community of Mercer County, Kentucky. He has one surviving brother Lloyd Seay (Linda) Goodlett.
Bob was understandably proud of paying his own way through the University of Kentucky after his daddy dropped him off near the campus, giving him $ 25. While at the University, he was President of Farmhouse Fraternity, received the Doane Agricultural Award and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. His advice to his daughters on the value of a college education was "No matter what you do for the rest of your life, sweep floors or whatever, that college degree is something no one can ever take away from you.
Bob married the late Frances Wayne Dewhurst of Lexington and together they had two daughters: Lisa (Stephen) Smith and Linda (Michael) Smith.
After Frances' premature death, Bob married Rose Clements Mudd. From this loving union, he gained two more daughters: Beth (Chris) Mudd Spalding and Abby (Wesley) Mudd Smith. Bob and Rose enjoyed thirty love-filled years together. Their family has since grown to include 10 grandchildren: Robert, Samuel, Emma, Cullen, Jon-Tate, Hayden, Kate, Lizzy, Caroline and Drew Thomas, in whom Bob and Rose took great delight.
He worked at Armour Food plant in Springfield and retired from his Plant Manager position after 33 years of service. He was a member of various civic organizations and service on numerous boards.
What Bob was most proud of was providing and keeping jobs for many in the community, being a faithful and loving husband, providing for and raising his family; planting, tending and harvesting vegetables from his garden and his faith and love of the Lord.
Here is a daughter's tribute of her father, Bob:
I have always admired the faith of my Father, which followed the example of his parents, my grandparents. Their family never had many material possessions, but they had a strong and deep faith. My father often recalled how as a little boy he would fall asleep in his loft bedroom to his mother playing church hymns by ear on an old pump organ below. Dad taught Sunday School Class ever since I can remember and he always loved reading and studying the bible. Even today, my Grandmother's old well-worn Bible sits at the top of his pile of books. He is a loving, shining example to us, his children, and to our children, his grandchildren.
THIS IS HIS TRUE AND LASTING LEGACY FOR WHICH WE, HIS FAMILY, ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL.
