Peyton Gage Hughes age 21, of Bardstown Rd., Springfield, passed away in a Kayak Fishing accident at Toledo Bend Reservoir in Hemphill, Texas on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Born June 25, 2004 in Lebanon, KY, he was preceded in death by his father, Jonathan Adam Hughes, March 19, 2005 and his maternal grandfather, Charlie Mattingly.
Peyton was a 2022 graduate of Washington County High School where he was a member of Fishing Team, played football his freshman year and played basketball all four years of high school. He was currently a Senior at Campbellsville University where he was a member of the Tigers Kayak Fishing Team. He was also employed with Paradise Pools in Bardstown,
He is survived by his mother, Sara Mattingly Hughes of Springfield, two brothers, Ethan Kelly of Russellville and Ashton Tingle-Hughes of Springfield, his maternal grandmothers, Lorrie Wheatley and Diane Mattingly both of Springfield, his paternal grandmother, Karen Hill of Lebanon, his paternal grandfather, John Hughes of Springfield, his aunt, Ashley O'Daniel of Springfield, his girlfriend, Amy Wathen of Botland and two special best friends, Tavin Hodgens and Nichalson Molyneaux.
Funeral services for Peyton Gage Hughes will be conducted at 2:00 pm Monday, October 6, 2025 at River of Life Community Church with Bro. Kyle Yankey and Bro. Troy Shelton officiating.
Cremation will follow services with a private inurnment with his father at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church Cemetery in Calvary.
Pallbearers will be Tavin Hodgens, Ethan Kelly, Nichalson Molyneaux, Brennan Burkhead, Nathan Greathouse and Jordon Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am till time of services at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 6, 2025 at River of Life Community Church, 1250 Highway 555 in Springfield.
