Mary Helen (Baker) Gordon

Mary Helen Baker Gordon was born October 20, 1931 to Myrtle Belle Clark and Everett Francis Baker.  She was the last surviving child of 13.  Our gratitude to Mrs. Amy and Mr. Sam Nally for loving and caring and nurturing Mary Helen during her lifetime.

Mary Helen graduated from Fredericktown grade school and high school.  She was a graduate of St. Catharine College and began to teach for 2 years at Manton, KY with Sister Sidelbi in a one room school.  Together they were the first school to serve a hot meal to their students.  Many thanks to community donations that made this happen.

On July 6, 1955 Mary Helen Baker married Richard (Jack) Milton Gordon.  In the years to follow, she became the loving mother of 5 children; Lydia, Iva, John, Richard and Neely.  She became known as "Momma Gordon" to all the children's friends.  She was a member of St. Dominic Church.

In 1971 Mary Helen became a licensed insurance agent.  She was the first woman hired by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.  Her strong belief in the need for insurance has served many families' financial peace in a time of grief and loss.  She was a leader in her career.

Mary Helen served on multiple community committees in Springfield and St. Catharine College.

Mary Helen has 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Now she is known as "Granny Gordon."  The Gordon children want to celebrate our Mother; her beautiful outlook and loving spirit.

Visitation will be at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 5:00 till 8:00 pm and again on Friday morning from 8:00 am till 10:30 am.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday morning, April 7, 2023 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Clark her first cousin and Rev. David Farrell officiating.

Graveside services will be at St. Rose Cemetery following the services.
