Mary Wheatley Obituary

Mary Gladys Wheatley 101, passed away peacefully at her home on October 28, 2021 . She was born on August 28, 1920, in Nelson County to the late Samuel and Anna Prudence Lyvers. Gladys grew up in Nelson County and attended the Old Sutherland School. She was a proud graduate of Bethlehem High School, class of 1940.She was the oldest alumni member of Bethlehem High School. 

Gladys married Leon Wheatley in 1942 at St. Thomas Church and moved to Washington County, where she lived the rest of her life. Together, they raised a large family on the Cartwright Creek Farm. After her husband passed away in 1977, she managed the family farm with her two sons. Gladys was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She leaves with all of them many cherished memories. 

Gladys was a devout Catholic and a member of Saint Rose Church. She was also a member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Wheatley and their daughter Mary Alicia. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Angela Brussell (T.J.), and Daisy Peters (George), her brothers, Jay Lyvers (Ruby), Junior Lyvers (Betty), and Marvin Lyvers and her son -in-laws, John Minor, Jim Mattingly, Bradley Arms, Tony Spalding, and a grandson Shane Minor. 

Gladys is survived by her 10 children; Leon Wheatley Jr. (Betty), Angela Minor, Theresa Mattingly, Joseph Wheatley, ( Sharon), Samuel Wheatley (Lee), Susie Fryer( Billy), Elaine Arms, Mark Wheatley, (Debbie),  Alice Spalding, and Johnny Wheatley (Lisa). Gladys is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Leona Lyvers of Bardstown. 

Visitation will be at the Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-8 and Monday morning from 7:00 until 10:30. 

The Funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 1 at St. Rose Catholic Church at 11:00 am.

Burial will be in the St. Rose Cemetery. 

Expressions of Sympathy may go to the Legacy Fund of St. Rose.
