Larry Ray Godshall age 72, of Armory Hill, Springfield, succumbed to a longtime illness on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at his residence.
Larry was born January 15, 1953 in Souderton, Pennsylvania to the late Harold Samuel and Addie Jean Watson Godshall and was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Cupo.
Larry spent his professional career as a chef, mastering the art of cooking and creating delicious dishes for all to enjoy. He retired in 2024, having been the owner of Cecconi's Restaurant for 8 years, had also been a chef at the Catfish House in Springfield for 9 years and Mordecai's from the time it opened until it closed for a total of 22 years. Larry left behind a legacy of culinary excellence and a 7 pepper soup and pimento cheese that was sought after.
When he wasn't in the kitchen, Larry could be found in his garden, cultivating beautiful plants with his green thumb. He loved cooking for any event and was known for his ability to turn any ingredient into a delicious meal. Larrry also enjoyed playing Uno with his beloved grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on in the delicious meals and joyful moments he shared with those around him.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Margo Murphy Godshall, a son, Michael (Lakynn Hodgens) Godshall of Louisville, a daughter, Sarah (Blake) Milburn of Springfield and two grandchildren, Carson and Mason Milburn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home with Bro. Levi Brahm officiating. Burial will be in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Zachary and John Luke Boone, Dominic and Jack Murphy, J.T. Spalding, Blake Milburn, Juan Cisternas and Leo Gomez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Martin, Johnny and Bobby Murphy, Thomas Boone and Eric Cambron.
Friends may call from 10:00 am till time of services at 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 16 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home who is entrusted with arrangements.
