John Francis Smith

John Francis Smith age 93, of Lexington, formerly of Washington County, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Treyton Oak Towers in Louisville.

Born October 19, 1932 in Washington County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Thomas and Mary Lucille Abell Smith, a son, Richard Thomas "Rick" Smith, December 7, 2013, four brothers, Sam J., William A., Bernard and Clarence Smith and a sister, Josephine Mudd.

He was a designer for IBM Corp. for 27 years, was a farmer and landowner, a custom home builder and a Catholic.

He is survived by a son, Dr. John Michael (Lou Ann) Smith of Louisville, a daughter, Polly Sue (Steve) Gaines of Erlanger, a daughter-in-law, Molly Keene Smith of Louisville, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, June 19, 2026 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home with Rev. Joachim Kenney, O.P. officiating.  Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin, Alex and Zachary Smith, Kyle and Curt Curley and Joe Marion.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jonathan and Phillip Smith.

Friends may call from 4:30 till 8:00 on Thursday and again from 8:00 am till time of service on Friday morning.
