James Anthony "Tony" Smith age 77, of Lanham Rd., Springfield, died Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 at his residence. Born May 15, 1941 in Washington County, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Mary Alice Johnston Smith and three brothers, Bill, Tommy and Lenny Smith.
He was a life long farmer in Washington County, retired from General Electric Co. in Louisville after 33 years in Building 5 where worked as an assemblyman and fork lift operator and was a life long member of St. Rose Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Catherine Graves Smith, a daughter, Cindy (Donald) Thompson of Springfield, three grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer Coulter) Thompson, James (Jennifer Sallee) Thompson of Lebanon and Julie (Randy Wade) of Loretto, five great grandchildren - Lucas, Kelsey, Leah & Daxton Thompson and Dylan Wade, five brothers, John (Joyce) Smith of Louisville, Joe (Nancy) Smith of Alexander, KY, Paul, J.C. (Ruth) and Kenny (Delores) Smith all of Springfield, four sisters, Theresa Osbourn and Betty (Oscar) Blandford all of Springfield, Mary (Jim) Fendley of LaGrange and Irene Chesser of Lexington, 3 sisters-in-law Margaret Smith and Donna Jean Smith of Springfield and Charley Smith of Sebring, Florida.
Funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, October 18, 2018 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P. and Deacon Donnie Coulter officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm Wednesday, October 17 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home where friends may call from 3:00 till 8:00 pm Wednesday and again from 7:00 am till 10:15 am on Thursday. Pallbearers will be Michael, James and Julie Thompson, Eddie, Larry and Jesse Smith and Steve Graves. Honorary will be his brothers, John, J.C. Joe, Kenny and Paul Smith and Imelda Gilpin. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
