James Samuel "Sam" Browning Sr. age 95 of Sam Browning Rd., Lebanon, died at 4:00 pm Friday, January 4, 2019 at his residence.
Born April 14, 1923 in Marion County, he was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Edgar and Mary Ethel Mattingly Browning, 2 brothers, Ed and John D. Browning and 5 sisters, Margaret Ledwell, Mary Rita Browning, Grace Brady, Gladys Mattingly and Nancy Osborne.
He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of World War II, a lifelong farmer, had worked at St. Mary’s College until its closing in 1976, was a lifelong member of St. Charles Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, President of the Parish Council and was also an altar server.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Hayden Browning, 2 sons, Sammy (Ellen) Browning Jr of Clearwater, Florida and Gary (Christy) Browning of Bowling Green, 3 daughters, Peggy Browning Burke of Lebanon, Dr. T. Rita Browning of Hohot, China and Annette "Lee" Robinson of Lebanon, 2 brothers, Ben Browning of Bowling Green and Mike "Lib" Browning of Louisville, 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral mass for James Samuel "Sam" Browning Sr. will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at St. Charles Catholic Church in St. Mary, KY with burial in the church cemetery with military honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm Tuesday by Deacon Joe Ray Dant at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield where friends may call from 4:30 pm till 8:00 pm Tuesday and again from 7:00 am till 9:30 am Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Brandon, Daniel, Clayton and Karl Robinson, Garret Browning, Jackson Benningfield and Luke and David Browning.
