Imelda Rose Mudd (Doodle), age 85, a resident of Washington, County, Kentucky was called home Sunday, August 31, 2025 at her home in Springfield, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Lee Mudd, Jr. (Dickie).
Our beloved Mom was born February 26, 1940 to Joe and Rose Medley. She was the third oldest of a very tight knit family of 9 children.
Mom was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church and served on the Bereavement and Homebound Committees. She shared her faith with others by word and action regardless of their denomination. She knew about her salvation and worked tirelessly and lovingly toward it. She believed in the power of prayer and faith and often said that there was no way she could have come as far as she had without it. She deeply instilled this into her family.
During her life, she worked as a homemaker until all her children were in school and then opened a preschool in Springfield with Burbona Riley beneath the Presbyterian Church in Springfield. She was a Director of Activities at Federal Hill Nursing Home and an insurance agent with American General.
Mom was a very active member of her community of Springfield. The Springfield Paint Whisperers Studio in which she was a cherished member was a frequent weekly stop. She was also a lifelong member of Homemakers. They called themselves the Lincoln Ladies and indeed they were. She often said that this group helped her become a better wife, mother, and friend. She loved every member who became her lifelong friends.
She was a master of many things. She cut our hair as kids and also cut anyone who stopped by the house that needed a trim (kids, brothers, boyfriends, spouses, etc…). She sewed clothes for us children when we were all small and frequently mended and patched items for her grandchildren. Painting was her favorite hobby and absolutely loved creating special paintings for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. These pictures that she painted with love will always be cherished. She also learned to cane chairs with my dad when we were young to help pay bills. Finally, she learned how to repair antique picture frames and was exceptionally skilled in this. She was always excited to learn new things.
Mom and Dad had four children that were devoted to her and she treated their spouses as her own…

Someone said of Mom, “To know her is to love her” and truer words were never said. Mom had so much love to give and gave it freely to whomever she encountered. We will never be able to fill her shoes but we will be forever trying to make her and Dad proud. We will always love and miss you, Mom! Your Sunday morning breakfast/family sessions will never be the same. Say hello to everyone and we’ll see you soon.
