George Lloyd Haydon III age 88, formerly of Walnut St., Springfield, died at 4:00 am Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Loretto Motherhouse Infirmary at Nerinx where he had been a resident since 2011.
Born June 15, 1930 in Washington County, he was preceded in death by his parents, George Robertson and Charlotte Simms Haydon, his wife, Betty Jane Thompson Haydon, February 17, 2014, a son, Benedict Simms Haydon, March 11, 2012, two brothers, Bobby and Ben Simms Haydon and two sisters, Charlotte Haydon Hapak and Mary Jane Klausing.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, had attended William & Mary College in Virginia and the University of Louisville, had been a co-owner of Haydon Mill & Grain Co. in Springfield, had taught school in Mackville for a short time and had also coached ball teams and worked as a referee, was a Cattleman along with his wife Betty for many years, had worked at Southern States for a period of time, was a member of Washington County Cattleman's Association, had worked at the prison near Danville and was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.
He is survived by three sons, George Lloyd Haydon IV of Dallas, Texas, Eric (Christina) Haydon of Cincinnati, Ohio and Julio (Cindy) Burgos of Loretto, four daughters, Elizabeth Jane (Larry) Martin, Carmel, Indiana, Dorothy Haydon of Lebanon, Jacqueline (Scott) Surface of LaGrange and Victoria Mackin of Lebanon, a brother, Duffy Haydon of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral mass will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. Culpepper Elliott officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home who has been entrusted with arrangements and where friends may call from 4:00 till 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 4 and again from 7:00 a.m. till 10:15 a.m. on Friday, October 5.
