George Michael “Mike” Wright, age 68, of Radcliff, formerly of Springfield, passed away suddenly on January 12, 2023 at his residence. Mike was born to George Russell and Louise Cecilia Reed Wright on November 12, 1954 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a 1973 graduate of Washington County High School, earned an Associate degree from St. Catharine College, and a Bachelor of Arts from Xavier University of Louisiana in 1978. He was a fiercely patriotic veteran, having served nearly 22 years combined in the United States Marine Corps and the Army National Guard as Sergeant First Class E-7, both of which he was honorably discharged, and he was also awarded the Kentucky Distinguished Service Medal by the Department of Military Affairs in 2003. He worked as an insurance salesman, army chef, and grocery click-list attendant over the years before retiring in 2022. He was of the Roman Catholic faith and was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He loved traveling, eating seafood, was an avid reader and researcher and avid sports fan, particularly of the University of Louisville Basketball teams.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Russell Wright, his brother-in-law, Johnnie Thompson on January 9, 2012, and most recently, his sister, Catherine “Tootie” Wright Thompson on July 2, 2022.
Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are two sons, George Michael Wright II of Louisville, Malachi coleman Wright of Springfield, four daughters, Hillary Camille Wright Kaufman (Cliff), Olivia Danielle Wright, and Haley Alexandria Aholou (Nathan), all of Louisville, and Latisha Spalding of Springfield, his former wife and mother of five of his children, Mary Elizabeth Coleman-Wright of Springfield, two grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
Cremation was chosen. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. all at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Springfield, with burial in the Holy Rosary/St. Dominic Cemetery with Military Honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Honor Guard. There will be no bereavement meal. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
