Don Flowers, Sr. Obituary

Don Kelly Flowers Sr. age 85, formerly of Springfield, died Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Grandview Nursing & Rehab in Campbellsville where he had resided since November 2018.

Born July 3, 1936 in Louisville, he was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Martin and Regina Lewis Flowers, is wife, Helen Aileen Dowdle Flowers, May 27, 2011, a son, Kevin Patrick Flowers, March 5, 1963 and a brother, David Gary Flowers.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, earned the Eagle Scout award, was KY State Police Trooper for 13 years serving in the Harlan KY post, was a member of the Middlesboro, KY VFW and American Legion Post, worked for VISTA (Volunteers In Service to America), was a self employed insurance agent at Flowers Insurance Agency in Middlesboro, worked in property management with FEMA for 20 years and was an Ordained Catholic Deacon in the Archdiocese of Lexington and Louisville. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church.

He is survived by five sons, Don Kelly (Dana) Flowers Jr. of Springfield, Michael David (Mechelle) Flowers of Ft. Defiance, Arizona, Chris (Nancy) Flowers of Pendleton, KY, Steven Todd Flowers and Brian Scott (Tracy) Flowers all of Middlesboro, KY, former daughter in law, Laura (Charlie) Osbourn of Springfield, 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral mass will be conducted at 12:00 noon Saturday, February 19, 2022 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Edmund Ditton, O.P. and Deacon Donnie Coulter officiating.  Burial will be in St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery with military honors conducted by Marion County Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Don Kelly Flowers III, Andrew, Matthew, Alex, Zachary, Patrick and John Flowers.

Visitation will be from 10:15 am till time of service Saturday at St. Rose Catholic Church.  Face masks are requested please.

Contributions are suggested to St. Vincent dePaul Society.
