Clara Corine Smith Carrico age 91 of W. High St., Springfield, died at 2:14 pm Monday, November 19, 2018 at Ehraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
Born March 31, 1927 in Washington County, she was preceded in death by her parents, William Joseph and Nellie Rebecca Rudd Smith, her husband, William Maurice Carrico, May 11, 2010, a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Nell and Kenneth Brookshire, June 21, 2010, 3 sisters, Mary Lillian Kidwell, June 25, 2017, Patricia Ann O'Bryan, March 13, 2017 and Nellie Catherine Smith, 1933, 2 brothers, James Richard Smith, 1979 and Joseph Brook Smith, 1931.
Clara began her teaching career at Badgett School, a one-room school house in the St. Rose area of Springfield, KY. She obtained her Bachelor's degree from Campbellsville College at the age of 56. She taught at St. Francis, St. Dominic, St. Gregory and St. Clements Schools. After retirement, she continued to substitute in the Washington County School system unit September, 2018.
She is survived by a son, Kevin Maurice (Marsha) Carrico of Louisville, 4 daughters, Helen (Mark) Warren of Springfield, Charlene (James) Mann of Winchester, Nancy (Tommy) Satterley of Shepherdsville and Lenora (Glenn) Abrams of Plover, Wisconsin, 4 brothers, Joe Murray (Imelda) Smith of Warner Robbins, Georgia, Albertus (Linda) Smith of Bardstown, Robert (Beverly) Smith of Campbellsville and Bernard (Rosemary) Smith of Louisville, 4 sisters, Sarah Frances (Joe) Jones of Louisville, Rebecca (Jimmy) Carrico, Regina (Leo) Carrico and Faye (Roy) Smith all of Springfield, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral mass for Clara Corine Smith Carrico will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Rose Catholic Church with Rev. Kevin McGrath, O.P. officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and great grandsons, Matthew and Brandon Mann, Bradley Warren, Craig Satterley, Jake Hood and Jordon Brown.
A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm Friday at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home where friends may call from 3:00 till 8:00 pm Friday and again from 7:00 till 10:15 am on Saturday morning
