Charles Lewis “Chuck” Ward, 52, of Springfield, passed peacefully on the morning of October 14, 2023 at his home after a nearly 2-year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born September 9, 1971 in Louisville, he was preceded in death by his parents, Jackie T & Mollie Teresa Ward. Chuck enjoyed studying his family’s genealogy and connecting the dots of their history.
He graduated from Southern High School in Louisville in 1990. After graduation, he moved to Florida to train at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute for a year. He returned to Louisville and eventually learned the Tool & Die trade. He was employed by Autokiniton (formerly Tower Automotive) in Bardstown for over 20 years as a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker/CNC Machinist.
Chuck loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, off-roading and hunting but his passion was fishing. His happy place was on the lake catching crappie. For many years, he competed in fishing tournaments on area lakes. When he wasn’t fishing, he studied lake maps for the best spots to catch more fish and enjoyed sharing his fishing tips with others.
When he and Alicia married in 2017, Chuck jumped right into the role of stepdad. He enjoyed attending their events, traveling with them, going out on the lake and sharing his life lessons.
In 2020, Chuck became Scoutmaster of Troop 429 of Springfield. He loved taking his scouts, Carter O’Cull & Clayton Taylor, camping and seeing them advance through their ranks. He was so proud to be able to attend the dedication of their Eagle Scout Projects this summer.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia Hale O’Cull Ward, and two stepchildren, Meredith O’Cull and Carter O’Cull, at home, an aunt, Sharon McGeorge, an uncle, Dale (Shirley) Miller and many cousins, in-laws and close friends.
Funeral service for Charles Lewis “Chuck” Ward will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday, October, 17, 2023 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with Rev. David Farrell officiating. A private burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery in Louisville.
Pallbearers will be Eric Miller, Steve Robbins, Eric Mattingly, Dane Mattingly, Cade Mattingly, Jim Wieber, Glenn Mattingly and Clayton Taylor.
Visitation will be at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home where friends may call from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Monday and again from 8:00 am till 9:30 am Tuesday morning.
