Catherine Taylor Clements, 96, of Springfield, KY, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Sansbury Care Center with family at her side. She had resided at Sansbury for a year and a half.
She was born in Washington County, KY on January 30, 1926 to William Chester Taylor and Diana Thompson Taylor. She attended Fredericktown Grade School, was the valedictorian and longest surviving member of the Fredericktown High School class f 1944 and earned an Associate Degree in Accounting form St. Catharine Junior College.
Catherine was a well-known and highly respected citizen of Springfield, residing in her home on High Street for over 70 years. After college she worked at several businesses, including bookkeeper for Haydon Coal and Oil, then devoted herself in 1951 to the fulltime raising of her children. After her husband’s heart attack in 1961, she joined First and Peoples Bank as a Proof Operator and retired from there in 1991, having risen to the rank of Vice President!
Catherine’s life was guided by her deep Catholic faith and her trust in God. Following her twenty-nine years at the bank, she continued ministering to others for twenty-nine more years at St. Dominic Parish. Her many roles included serving on the parish council, choir, alter society, eucharistic ministry, and assisting in the parish office. She was awarded the St. Dominic School Knight Award in 2014 for her many contributions and support for the school’s mission.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 21 years Luckett Simms Clements, a son William Chester Clements, brothers Frank Taylor and William ‘Buddy’ Taylor, and sisters Eleanor Rapier, Mary Boone, Sister Mary Diane Taylor OSUMSJ, Violet Smith, and Carole Taylor.
She is survived by four children, Jim Clements (Geralyn) of Louisville, Diane Black (Bob) of Taylorsville, Mark Clements (Mary T.) of Louisville, Cele Walker (Hollis) of Mount Eden, and nine grandchildren: Ben Clements (Ashley), Catherine and Rob Black, Corinne (Hunter), Marian, and Patricia Clements, Bridgett Kramer (Brent), Becca Owen (Dillon), and Liz Walker. Other survivors include her brother Tom Taylor (Tippy) of Bardstown, sister Judy Thompson (Steve) of Loretto and sister-in-law, Marilee Taylor of San Luis Obispo, CA.
She was admired for her strength and courage in the face of hardship and loss, and for her resourcefulness. She will be remembered for her love of her family, her sense of humor, and her acceptance of others. She was an excellent listener. She liked a bourbon cocktail before supper, enjoyed bingo, bridge club, listening to music and she relished visits from relatives and friends. She was an outstanding seamstress, as evidenced by the tailored suits, first communion and wedding dresses and other clothing she made for her children and grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and administrators of Sansbury Care Center for their compassionate and loving care.
