It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved father and grandfather, Alexander (Alex) Samuel Mattingly, 70, of Nicholasville KY, who died peacefully at his home March 25, 2025.
Alex was born July 19, 1954, in Lebanon, KY to John Francis and Lela Rose Spalding Mattingly. Alex was a graduate of Washington County High School, class of 1972. He spent his adult life working at ABR Construction, Inc. for 40 years as a Technical Manager.
Alex is survived by his son, Brent Alexander Mattingly of Wake Forest, NC and daughter, Alicia Joan Mattingly of Indianapolis, IN. He was a loving Bearpa to his four grandkids, Ella Grace Elizabeth and Chapel Alexander Mattingly (Brent) and Hunter Joseph and Sutton Alexandria Rose Faulconer (Alicia). He will be remembered by his siblings Ardella (Bobby) Smith of Florence, KY, Bernie (Barbara) Mattingly of Cookeville, TN, Martin (Laura) Mattingly of Frankfort, KY, and Glen (Paula) Mattingly of Springfield, KY as well nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents John Francis and Lela Rose Mattingly, a bother Francis (Frankie) David Mattingly and his most precious girls Lucy and Lily, his beloved puppies.
Alex was a man of simple pleasures; he loved his Kentucky Wildcats and traveling to the SEC tournament to cheer on the team. He was an avid wood worker, antique toy refinisher, and the ultimate home improvement go-to by his family and friends. He loved to restore and build hunting guns and knives. He wanted to see the world and was able to take many cruises with his family. His last trip was to Normandy to see the beaches his dad stormed many decades ago. In the fall, his favorite place was in a tree 50ft up waiting for the perfect deer. He loved to share his passions with his grandkids, spending hours with them in the garage. One of his favorite things was waking up early and snuggling his grandbabies while watching cartoons with them.
Services will be held Thursday April 3, 2025, visitation will start at 9:00 am with a mass following at 10:30 am at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Springfield, KY with Rev. David Farrell officiating. Inurnment will be in the family plot at St. Dominic-Holy Rosary Cemetery.
